Obama’s – and our – moment of truth

 

I fear Obama is missing his moment.  We elected him to lead, to take us in a different, better direction.  It appears that he is doing everything he can to avoid what reality is saying to him, and to us.  If we don’t change our ways, we run the risk of destruction.   Environmentally, economically, socially. 

We, and he, can’t have it both ways.  We cannot pretend that our lifestyle is sustainable when we know it is not.  The signs of this are EVERYWHERE.  Energy crisis, eternal conflict, environmental catastrophe, dysfunctional democracy.   

Now is his time to tell us the truth.  Now is his time to start the conversation about the real future we face.   Now is his time to lead us.

But….I dream.  He’s a politician who has one goal:  re-election.   No one who has ever told us the truth gets re-elected. To sing CSNY: “we’re finally on our own…”
